Some winter weeds will still be germinating, especially if rains are late. Apply treatments to stop weeds from putting down seeds for next year’s germination. These weeds include clovers, flat weeds, and dandelions. There are two active chemicals for use by the home gardener: Bromoxynil for Buffalo varieties and Dicamba for couch and kikuyu varieties. Start locating and checking all aspects of your irrigation system. Pop-up sprinklers can get trodden down and may need attention including bringing back to the correct level. Include check of valve boxes, solenoid valves and pumps in your system check. Make sure you undertake a catch cup test prior to turning your sprinklers back on for the warmer months.
