Assoc. Professor Sally Thompson will present recent research on new material relating to the impacts of last summer’s hot weather on Banksia woodland around Perth, urban tree canopy health, and new findings on temperature differences under tree canopies versus open spaces. Her team has designed a temperature study to compare trees in parks, suburban street trees, and trees in built-up areas, covering three tree species and a range of canopy conditions. The research aims to link factors such as how a green understory affects temperature and how the loss of tree canopy health may impact urban cooling.
